My last DJ gig before the full effect of the COVID-19 pandemic hit Australia was for a wedding in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. One of the best receptions I’ve worked, and I was happy to take home an armful of table flowers which I of course turned into a flower crown (would you have expected any less?)

FUNNY HAT FRIDAY: DIY FRESH SUNFLOWER FASCINATOR

I don’t speak German at all (yet!) but I think the word for “sunflower” is super cute: „Sonnenblume

Anyway, my mother was given some sunflower blooms. I was subsequently given permission to turn them into a headpiece towards the end of their lifespan. Just a short post for y’all to share it.

FUNNY HAT FRIDAYS: Leucadendron Fresh Flower Crown

One of my best friends recently became an Australian citizen at a ceremony on January 26th. With permission, I took home one of the numerous leftover bunches of native flowers from the townhall. I initially intended to make this flower crown with silver eucalyptus leaves as well, but I found the leucadendrons to be rich and full enough on their own.

When I was traveling in Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of 2014, I came a cross a vendor selling beautiful flower crowns with braided ties at the back. Some of them had little birds in them, which delighted me immensely, and I knew I had to get my hands on something similar. (more…)
