My last DJ gig before the full effect of the COVID-19 pandemic hit Australia was for a wedding in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. One of the best receptions I’ve worked, and I was happy to take home an armful of table flowers which I of course turned into a flower crown (would you have expected any less?)
I don’t speak German at all (yet!) but I think the word for “sunflower” is super cute: „Sonnenblume“
Anyway, my mother was given some sunflower blooms. I was subsequently given permission to turn them into a headpiece towards the end of their lifespan. Just a short post for y’all to share it.
I spent most of 2018 living in the beautiful Barossa Valley wine region for my rural hospital placement. It’s special to be able to watch the countryside slowly change with the seasons. I started the year marvelling at fields of golden grass and rows of lush green vines, and was equally enraptured by the gradual transition to the deep reds of autumn in April-May.
And so, on my final day of Semester 1, I took the afternoon off (what a rebel!) to do a photoshoot amongst the beautiful autumn foliage.
For my brother’s birthday last November, he organised for us to go in a mini bus to a pretty winery in McLaren Vale, a wine region in south of Adelaide. This was prior to my moving to the Barossa (another wine region to the north)… I was going to say “so being surrounded by vineyards was still a novelty”, but to be honest even after some eight months here, I still marvel at the views!
Anyway, me being me, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do an impromptu photoshoot in a new location for me (I had never been to McLaren Vale before). And what better crown to wear to a winery than one of vines! Fortunately, my sister-in-law was part of the birthday party, so I had a photographer on hand for a few quick snaps.
I hope you all had a blessed Easter! I am currently living in Kapunda for my rural hospital placement, but came home to Adelaide for the Easter long weekend. During this time, I made an appropriately themed fascinator and headed to the river with next to the university to take a few photos! It was a bit spontaneous, so I just used what materials were available to me since all the shops were closed.
One of my best friends recently became an Australian citizen at a ceremony on January 26th. With permission, I took home one of the numerous leftover bunches of native flowers from the townhall. I initially intended to make this flower crown with silver eucalyptus leaves as well, but I found the leucadendrons to be rich and full enough on their own.
Happy Easter! I certainly enjoyed mine; it was a welcome break from hospital placement (we are now 14 weeks into the semester, with holidays over a month away) to catch up with friends and celebrate the death and resurrection of our blessed saviour. I spent the weekend with my old schoolmates, staying at my friend’s forest cabin in the Aussie bushland forest of Wirrabara (approx. 3hrs from Adelaide, near Laura)
Of course, I couldn’t resist taking advantage the beautiful location and company of my creative friends for a photoshoot. This was done in collaboration with E from Faith in Fools as my photographer (the recipient of a rose flowercrown as well as the host of our Kitschella party, if you recall).
Hello hello! If you’ve been following my Insta, you may recall a photo I shared of my street in the 2014.
Every spring, without fail, the little plum trees lining my avenue slowly erupt into a glorious bloom of pale pink blossoms. It is really a sight to behold, and its also fun to see their tiny petals gather along the roadside with each passing day as I walk to and from the bus stop. So last September (2016) I couldn’t resist but to make a cherry blossom flower crown.

For me, 2016 had many challenges but also many wonderful joys and new memories 🙂 My New Year’s Eve was spent at my friend’s Bollywood-themed party: think copious amounts of curry, papadams, henna, saris and Bride and Prejudice #culturalappreciation
I recently turned 21, an important milestone in many cultures. And as such, I wanted to celebrate with all of my friends and family in a way that was quintessentially me: dancing to DJ and live band, food, fairylights and flowercrowns.
